Gov. Gavin Newsom on Thursday announced that 13 automakers will participate in California’s new electric vehicle rebate program.

What happened: Newsom’s (D) office unveiled a list that is largely comprised of American and Asian car companies. Those manufacturers are: Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Lucid, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Rivian, Subaru, Tesla, Toyota and Volvo.

Those automakers will be eligible to apply a $3,500 rebate on new EVs with a retail price under $50,000 and a $1,750 incentive on used models sold for up to $25,000 through manufacturer pre-owned vehicle programs. The retail price cap does not apply to Lucid and Rivian, which are exempt as California-based companies.

Those rebates are evenly split between state funding and a manufacturer match.
