EPA will allow Congress to review and potentially reverse a trio of waivers that give California the authority to set stronger-than-federal vehicles emissions rules, the agency said Friday.

EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin announced the agency is sending lawmakers California’s Advanced Clean Cars II and Advanced Clean Trucks waivers, rules approved under former President Joe Biden that require passenger car and commercial truck manufacturers to sell increasing numbers of zero-emission models, before eventually phasing out sales of internal combustion vehicles.

The move includes a third waiver, known as Heavy-Duty Low NOx, which increases emissions standards for diesel trucks.

EPA officials said in a press release that the two truck waivers “increased the cost of those vehicles” and “increased the costs of goods and the cost of living for American families across the country.”
