Senate sponsors of major bipartisan nuclear energy legislation are considering a strategy to get the package to the president’s desk under a rapid timeline — if they can get their colleagues on board.

The “Accelerating Deployment of Versatile, Advanced Nuclear for Clean Energy (ADVANCE) Act” was tucked into S. 870, the “Fire Grants and Safety Act.” It passed the House earlier this month, 393-13.

Senate Environment and Public Works Chair Tom Carper (D-Del.) said he was in discussions with Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) on getting the package to the president’s desk, potentially through a unanimous consent agreement.

“It’s passed the House by an overwhelming margin, I’ve talked to our own leadership about it,” Carper said. “I think, or I hope, we can find a way to move it.”
