There’s huge gap in the use of electric vehicle charging stations between large rural states and more densely populated states that have promoted EVs, according to a report released Tuesday.

California’s EV charging stations were in use nearly 25 percent of the time in the first three months of 2025.

In South Dakota, the stations were used just 1.1 percent of the time, according to a report from an EV consulting firm.
