Chief justice pans Trump’s judicial impeachment call

The president and his allies have publicly supported the firing of judges who rule against the administration’s policies.

Chief Justice John Roberts is calling out President Donald Trump and his allies for supporting impeachment of judges who have ruled against their policies.

“For more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision,” Roberts said Tuesday in a rare statement. “The normal appellate review process exists for that purpose.”

A Supreme Court spokesperson said Roberts’ comment came in response to inquiries following a Tuesday social media post from Trump that went after Chief Judge James Boasberg of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia for blocking the administration’s use of an 18th-century law to deport Venezuelan migrants.

“This judge, like many of the Crooked Judges’ I am forced to appear before, should be IMPEACHED!!!” Trump wrote in his Truth Social post of Boasberg, an Obama appointee. “WE DON’T WANT VICIOUS, VIOLENT, AND DEMENTED CRIMINALS, MANY OF THEM DERANGED MURDERERS, IN OUR COUNTRY. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”
