France again leads the world in energy efficiency while the United States slipped to 11th place among 25 countries ranked in a global scorecard released Wednesday by a nonprofit research group.
China jumped four spots to No. 5 in the scorecard after expanding the adoption of electric vehicles and leading in the use of public transit while setting goals to reduce both its energy consumption and intensity, the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy said.
The group’s International Energy Efficiency Scorecard evaluates the world’s biggest energy-using countries based on national energy-saving policies and performance across major sectors that drive energy demand.
France, which also ranked first in the previous scorecard, in 2022, earned top marks for its building-renovation codes, fuel-efficiency rules and low industrial energy intensity. Germany and the United Kingdom followed, while China and Spain tied for fifth.
