Energy Secretary Chris Wright issued a broad plan Wednesday to “unleash energy dominance,” pledging to crack down on efficiency rules and increase energy production without “net-zero policies.”

In his first secretarial order, Wright detailed nine principles that will guide his agenda, including increasing innovation, returning “regular order” to liquefied natural gas exports, promoting “consumer choice” in home appliances, refilling the strategic petroleum reserve (SPR), modernizing America’s nuclear stockpile, unleashing nuclear power, strengthening grid reliability and streamlining permitting.

“Net-zero policies raise energy costs for American families and businesses, threaten the reliability of our energy system, and undermine our energy and national security. They also have achieved precious little in reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” Wright wrote in the order, which followed his first public speech to staff at DOE’s headquarters in Washington.

While the plan did not include specific regulations, it’s likely to guide the development of future rules and steer coming budget proposals.
