The activist group Climate Defiance endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris this week as it lamented her approach to climate change so far in the campaign.
“We do not take this step lightly. Our endorsement of Kamala Harris is nuanced,” the group’s founder, Michael Greenberg, said in a statement. The organization, founded in 2023, regularly disrupts politicians’ events to prod them to be more aggressive to combat climate change.
“Sadly, Kamala Harris is not running as a climate champion,” Greenberg said. “Her campaign so far has been startlingly light on substance. The most tangible thing that she has said about fossil fuels is to clarify that she does actually support fracking.”
Harris’ campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
