Activists with the group Climate Defiance plan to protest at the Department of Energy’s Washington headquarters in December to prod the outgoing administration on natural gas exports.
The climate group plans to “blockade” the department on Dec. 12 to urge President Joe Biden to limit the expansion of natural gas export facilities ahead of the Trump administration’s expected about-face on energy policies, the group’s founder Michael Greenberg said in an interview.
“We’re going to blockade the DOE to call on Biden to reject all fracked gas export facilities in the permitting process” and to require the Department of Energy “to fully take into consideration all life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions before making determinations,” Greenberg said Wednesday.
The planned protest will be part of a “week of actions” for the climate activism group, Greenberg said. The organization’s members gained attention in recent years — and sometimes got arrested — for protesting senior Biden administration officials.
