Environmentalists are vowing to fight against any Trump administration actions to target climate nonprofits as rumors continue to swirl about upcoming White House actions.
Climate policy advocates assembled Monday to warn of legal perils and public opposition if the administration moves to limit green groups’ tax-exempt status.
Speculation about a possible Earth Day executive order targeting environmental groups has sparked concerns in environmental policy circles in recent days, although the administration has not previewed any announcements. The White House did not respond to a request for comment Monday about the rumors.
“What appears to be coming is an effort by Donald Trump to turn Earth Day into anti-Earth Day, to try to again abuse the law and the Constitution,” said former Washington Gov. Jay Inslee (D). Inslee joined other climate advocates during a virtual news conference Monday to warn against any upcoming moves to target environmental nonprofits.
