Prominent right-leaning figures in climate policy have joined a Trump administration trade advisory panel despite the president’s hostility toward action against rising temperatures.
The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative has appointed new members to its Trade and Environment Policy Advisory Committee (TEPAC), including people who have called for a new fee on polluting imports.
Among those chosen are George David Banks, CEO at the American Council for Capital Formation, and Greg Bertelsen, CEO of the Climate Leadership Council.
“I look forward to working with USTR and my colleagues on the Committee to ensure U.S. trade policy rewards U.S. workers and industry for their environmental performance and holds foreign polluters accountable,” Banks said in a statement.
