Energy Department chief of staff Carl Coe on Wednesday said he is leaving the agency, an exit that comes after a little more than a year on the job as Secretary Chris Wright’s right-hand man.
Coe in an interview with POLITICO confirmed he is leaving the agency July 31 and that Charlie Dankert will replace him as DOE’s chief of staff. Coe said he’s leaving the department to be with family in North Carolina and that working for Wright was “the experience of my life.”
Dankert is currently serving as DOE’s deputy chief of staff for policy, according to his Linkedin profile.
Coe’s exit is the latest churn in a department that has already cycled through staff in the year and a half since President Donald Trump started his second administration. Coe is a close Wright ally and a former accounting software executive who originally joined the Trump administration as part of Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, leading DOGE efforts within the Energy Department.
