The House Energy and Commerce Committee will vote on legislation this week to improve the nation’s recycling infrastructure.
The panel will take up the “Recycling Infrastructure and Accessibility Act,” H.R. 2145, led by Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa), which incorporates the “Recycling and Composting Accountability Act,” H.R. 4109, led by Rep. Joe Neguse (D-Colo.).
The legislation mirrors the Senate’s “STEWARD Act,” S. 351, from Environment and Public Works Chair Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and ranking member Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.). It passed that chamber in December.
The House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on the Environment cleared H.R. 2145 last week by voice vote. The subcommittee also advanced the “Brownfields Revitalization for a Better Tomorrow Act,” H.R. 8739. The latter is not on this week’s markup agenda.
