Montana Republican Sen. Steve Daines on Thursday introduced energy legislation that could be part of the GOP reconciliation push.

They are two bills in all: The first, the “Supporting Made in America Energy Act,” would require four annual onshore lease sales in top oil and gas producing states, two annual offshore leases sales in the Gulf of Mexico and six offshore lease sales over ten years in Alaska’s Cook Inlet.

A second bill, the “Restoring State Mineral Revenues Act” would remove the 2 percent administrative fee on federal oil and gas royalty payments to the states. That would provide more money to local schools and infrastructure, Daines said.

The Montana Republican in a statement chided former President Joe Biden for his green agenda — even though oil and gas production on federal lands hit record highs during his administration — while applauding President Donald Trump.
