Defenders of Wildlife announced a new government liaison Tuesday.
Mike Leahy will take over as vice president of government relations, returning to the Washington-based conservation group after he served as senior director of wildlife, hunting and fishing policy at the National Wildlife Federation.
Leahy previously spent 13 years with Defenders, including as its natural resource counsel and director of its Rocky Mountain region.
“Mike brings a rare combination of policy expertise, strategic judgment and deep commitment to wildlife conservation,” Andrew Bowman, president and CEO of Defenders, said in a statement. “He understands both the substance of the issues and the realities of navigating challenging political environments.”
