Dem aide in permitting mix jumps to geothermal startup

A Democratic energy aide who has worked on permitting reform and wildfire policy has left Capitol Hill for a geothermal company.

Tom Erb, a former aide to Sen. John Hickenlooper (D-Colo.) and Rep. Scott Peters (D-Calif.), spent the last four years working on a range of energy policy issues.

He has departed the Hill for a policy and government affairs role at Fervo Energy at a time of intense partisan strife in Congress, but he insists that did not drive him away. In fact, he thinks there could be opportunity for bipartisan action on the long-evasive issue of permitting reform.

“I think there’s definitely opportunity for it — both sides are negotiating for different reasons,” Erb said in an interview with POLITICO’s E&E News. Many of the key players and committee chairs are new this Congress.
