A House Democrat wants to impeach White House budget director Russ Vought over the Trump administration’s cancellation of hundreds of energy grants in Democratic-led states, many of which have been reinstated.
California Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove introduced two articles of impeachment against Vought this week, charging him with “abuse of power” and “failure to faithfully execute the laws of the United States.”
The impeachment push, which has virtually no chance of success in the Republican-controlled Congress, marks Democrats’ latest effort to target Trump administration officials for the Department of Energy’s move last year to terminate previously approved energy grants, mostly in states that did not vote for President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
Earlier this week, a pair of House Democrats called on the Department of Justice to prosecute Energy Secretary Chris Wright, accusing him of giving false testimony to Congress when he told lawmakers in June that the grant cancellations were not based on the political affiliation of recipients’ home states.
