The Interior Department and President Donald Trump have plans to turn a public golf course in Washington into a professional-level course.

Maryland and Virginia Democratic senators pressed Interior Department leadership Wednesday to provide more details on the president’s proposed renovations of a public golf course in Washington owned by the National Park Service.

The letter is the latest development in a monthslong fight over President Donald Trump’s plans to transform East Potomac Golf Links into a professional-level course capable of hosting major tournaments. The proposed redevelopment has drawn criticism from lawmakers and preservation groups concerned about public access to the course, while litigation over the renovations remains ongoing.

After a tour of the course last month, Trump announced that the redevelopment would commence Sept. 1.

“It was determined that, on this fantastic site, with water and unparalleled views of D.C.’s Monuments, we will build one of the Greatest Golf Courses anywhere in the World, which, importantly, will also be made available to the Public,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
