Congressional Democrats on Monday outlined their official strategy for pushing back against the Trump administration’s targeting of federal programs, including those focused on renewable energy and climate change.

In a series of letters and floor speeches, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) announced new and ongoing steps to minimize the administration’s “coordinated assault” on federal funding, agencies’ regulatory powers and the civil service.

Schumer detailed a four-part scheme centered around leveraging the narrow House and Senate margins in upcoming legislation, conducting oversight through inquiries and independent hearings, using litigation to halt illegal actions, and bolstering Democratic messaging to mobilize constituents.

He announced the launch of a whistleblower portal for individuals to report “abuses of power,” and Jeffries said House Democrats had established a “Rapid Response Task Force and Litigation Working Group.”
