Top Democratic appropriators overseeing funding for the Army Corps of Engineers are seeking answers about the Trump administration’s moves to withhold billions of dollars in funding for projects in Democratic-led cities.
Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) and Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio) sent a letter to two Army Corps leaders Monday, questioning the administration’s decision to freeze $11 billion for a number of projects and calling it “political retribution.”
White House budget chief Russ Vought said on X earlier this month that the Army Corps “will be immediately pausing over $11 billion in lower-priority projects & considering them for cancellation.”
He said the affected projects are in various cities, including New York, San Francisco, Boston and Baltimore, all led by Democrats. He did not specify which projects would be affected.
