Democrats are planning to hammer the Trump administration’s use of anonymous private donations to fund celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, seizing on a House Natural Resources hearing to spotlight the issue.

The Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations is scheduled to hold a hearing Tuesday titled “All in for America250: Public-Private Partnerships Supporting America’s Semiquincentennial on our Public Lands,” to extol partnerships being forged for the anniversary year.

The panel, led by Arizona Republican Rep. Paul Gosar, will look at how “public-private partnerships expertly combine resources and knowledge” to shape public land events honoring the nation’s history, according to a hearing memo.

The memo stated that the panel will explore how private donations compound congressional appropriations, “effectively multiplying the efficiency of federal funds through enhanced investments in restoration, education, and stewardship.”
