Congressional Democrats are renewing their push for legislation that would charge global and domestic polluters for their carbon emissions.
Senate Environment and Public Works ranking member Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) and Rep. Suzan DelBene (D-Wash.) reintroduced the “Clean Competition Act” Wednesday.
The bill would put in place a carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM) that would tax pollution-intensive imports and exports based on their carbon emissions.
Whitehouse has championed the bill in previous congressional terms, but it has failed to gain traction — and will likely stall again in Republican-led Washington.
