House Ways and Means Committee Democrats introduced legislation Wednesday to revive renewable energy tax credits from the Biden-era Inflation Reduction Act.

The legislation — from Rep. Mike Thompson (D-Calif.), Ways and Means ranking member Richard Neal (D-Mass.) and others — would also restore electric vehicle incentives.

Democrats have accused Republicans of raising electric bills by scrapping renewable energy incentives. “I haven’t met anyone in our community who said, ‘I wish Congress would raise my energy bills,'” said Thompson.

The bill, co-sponsored by 114 House Democrats, has no chance of passing this Congress. Republicans rolled back Inflation Reduction Act tax incentives in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, and say Democratic green policies are really to blame for high prices.
