House Energy and Commerce Democrats on Tuesday announced leaders for the various subcommittees, revealing key players in crating energy and environment policy.
Florida Rep. Kathy Castor, a longtime Democratic climate hawk, will become ranking member of the Energy Subcommittee. She is taking the place of Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.), who is becoming ranking member of the Health Subcommittee.
“I represent a community that just suffered these incredible hurricanes, and it’s costing people a lot their insurance, their electric bills,” Castor said when asked about her priorities. “So I’m interested in continuing the work on cleaner and cheaper energy, and finding bipartisan cooperation where we can.”
Castor has an extensive record of energy and environment legislating on Capitol Hill, including chairing the now-dissolved House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis from 2019 to 2023.
