House Democrats on Thursday said they’ve combined 25 forest- and wildfire-related bills into one big legislative package summarizing their positions on management of federal lands.
The measures cover bipartisan issues like boosting pay for wildland firefighters, as well as more divisive matters such as permanently blocking logging in designated roadless areas of national forests.
“Hotter summers and drier forests mean wildfires are burning more intensely and reaching towns that never used to worry about them,” said House Natural Resources ranking Democrat Jared Huffman of California, a lead sponsor.

“This is the fight of our time, and we will not let up until every community has the protection they need,” Huffman added.
