Senate Democrats are using a rare procedure to get members on the record about President Donald Trump’s “energy emergency” executive order.

Senate Democrats said Wednesday the chamber would soon vote on legislation to scrap President Donald Trump’s executive order declaring an energy emergency.

By filing the measure as a privileged joint resolution, Senate Energy and Natural Resources ranking member Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) are forcing a debate and roll call on S.J. Res. 10 as early as next week.

“It’s not used very often, but this emergency declaration is such a sham devised for such a corrupt purpose that we decided we’re using it,” Kaine, the lead sponsor, told reporters during a Wednesday press conference.

“We’re going to force a vote, force everybody to declare where they are on this sham emergency declaration and this unnecessary degradation of important environmental protections,” the senator said.
