TALLAHASSEE, Florida — Gov. Ron DeSantis blasted House Republicans on Monday, predicting that legislators will not push any significant changes to the state’s insurance laws during the upcoming 2026 session.
DeSantis appeared in Orlando at an annual meeting of American Property Casualty Insurance Association — a leading trade group for insurers — where he touted his overhaul of the Florida Supreme Court and his push to make it harder to sue insurance companies.
The Republican governor contended that state House Republicans, under the sway of trial attorneys, wanted to undo those changes during the 2025 session. He praised Senate Republicans for refusing to consider those bills.
“They didn’t have a mandate to try to undo the reforms that they were trying to undo,” DeSantis said of House Republicans.
