The Energy Department announced Tuesday that Greg Beard was appointed director of its loan office, known as the Office of Energy Dominance Financing.
His appointment to director formally places Beard atop a key office within the Trump administration’s energy agenda. A former energy investor and bitcoin executive, Beard joined the office as a senior adviser last April.
Beard has long been the focus of internal discussions for the director role following the exit last year of the former head Lane Genatowski.

“I took this role because the commonsense policies of President Trump and Secretary [Chris] Wright will bring affordable, reliable, and secure energy to the American people,” Beard said in a statement.
