Energy Department staffers were directed to prepare for a possible “restructuring” Monday — but offered few details — and were given the option to leave voluntarily before mandated job cuts take effect, according to emails obtained by POLITICO’s E&E News.

In a memo responding to President Donald Trump’s directives on “workforce optimization,” DOE’s chief human capital officer said the agency is “preparing for potential workforce restructuring which may affect all or parts of the agency.”

It’s unclear what changes DOE leadership plans to bring about. The agency did not immediately respond when asked what changes are afoot.
