DOGE teams are at work across the federal government as agencies faced a Wednesday deadline to set up internal teams charged with carrying out the Trump administration’s bureaucracy-slashing agenda.

In President Donald Trump’s Jan. 20 executive order setting up the “Department of Government Efficiency,” the president ordered each agency leader to hire or assign DOGE teams of at least four people within 30 days. Those DOGE employees are landing at agencies across the government, the Trump administration said this week, but their identities and jobs are still murky.

The White House and 19 federal agencies contacted by POLITICO’s E&E News declined to offer details about the DOGE teams’ rosters or their work.

“President Trump promised the American people he would establish a Department of Government Efficiency, overseen by Elon Musk, to make the federal government more efficient and accountable to taxpayers,” said White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.
