DOJ files charges against ship company in Baltimore bridge crash

Two foreign entities and an employee are charged with conspiracy to defraud the U.S. and causing the death of six construction workers.

The Justice Department on Tuesday announced criminal charges against two foreign entities and an individual connected to a container ship that crashed into a Baltimore bridge in March 2024.

The crash killed six construction workers and collapsed the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

The defendants include Singapore-based Synergy Marine, and India-based Synergy Maritime, along with an Indian national, Radhakrishnan Karthik Nair, 47, a technical superintendent for the container ship Dali.

According to the indictment, which was filed April 8, they are charged with conspiracy, failing to inform the Coast Guard of a “known hazardous condition,” along with obstruction of an agency proceeding and providing false statements.
