Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy will field questions from House members this week about his growing role in the Trump administration, which now includes land, water, air and — temporarily — space.
Duffy is scheduled to testify Wednesday in front of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. Separately, the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will hold a hearing Wednesday on the 2026 surface transportation bill.
Duffy was appointed interim head of NASA on July 9, after President Donald Trump rejected the previous nominee to lead the agency.
Some members of Congress have hinted that his portfolio is too big. Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Chair Ted Cruz (R-Texas) told POLITICO he hopes Trump appoints a permanent NASA chief “promptly.” Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) said the extra job is “too much” given Duffy’s role in aviation safety.
