Earl Blumenauer says good policy can survive Trump

The 28-year veteran of Congress sounded off on his accomplishments and policy under a second Trump presidency.

Earl Blumenauer is exasperated.

And that’s not because the wily progressive Democrat from Oregon, who was first elected to Congress nearly 30 years ago, is leaving Capitol Hill.

Blumenauer, 76, is exasperated because, in his telling, he’s spent the last three decades trying to create good public policy that will help normal people. That includes decades of work in clean energy, the environment and infrastructure.

And though he had breakthroughs during the Biden years, including the Inflation Reduction Act and bipartisan infrastructure law that he helped craft from his perch on the House Ways and Means Committee, he’ll be leaving it all to a hostile Congress and administration.
