A utility is partnering with a renewable energy developer to build large amounts of solar and energy storage capacity in the southern U.S., capitalizing on strong demand for carbon-free power.
Entergy and NextEra Energy Resources said their expanded collaboration will speed up the pace of electricity projects in Entergy’s service area, which includes parts of Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi and Arkansas.
“We believe the power sector is at an inflection point, and growing electricity demand will be met by low-cost, renewable generation and storage,” said Rebecca Kujawa, CEO of NextEra Energy Resources, in a statement.
The collaboration will add up to 4.5 gigawatts of projects “on top of the more than 1.7 GW of renewable energy projects already underway with Entergy,” Kujawa said. By comparison, some nuclear power plants can provide roughly 1 GW of electricity each.
