Energy efficiency standards, drinking water infrastructure grants, chemical and waste management programs and even EPA’s statutory authority will all come under the critical eye of Republicans on the Energy and Commerce Committee this Congress.
The panel’s new oversight and authorization plan, which lawmakers will mark up Tuesday, lays out Republicans’ biggest targets for investigations and reform as they move to codify President Donald Trump’s energy and environment goals.
It also offers a window into how the GOP will work to hold the Department of Energy, EPA and other agencies under the committee’s jurisdiction accountable after the Biden administration’s historically climate-focused regulatory spree.
Democrats on Tuesday will likely object to some of the language in the oversight plan and see proposed amendments rebuffed by the Republican majority.
