Energy secretary’s adviser exits DOE

Steve Winberg, who returned to the Energy Department after serving during President Donald Trump’s first stint in office, has left the agency.

Steve Winberg, a former Trump official who most recently served as an adviser to Energy Secretary Chris Wright, has left the agency, according to his online profile.

Winberg posted on LinkedIn that he has retired and left DOE, where he served as Wright’s adviser. He also served as the DOE’s deputy undersecretary for infrastructure, a role he filled since early January.

DOE did not respond when asked about Winberg’s departure.

Before joining DOE, Winberg was vice president for research and development at Consol Energy, a Pennsylvania-based coal company, and was a senior program manager with the Battelle Memorial Institute.
