SACRAMENTO, California — Environmental groups are jumping in to support Proposition 50, Gov. Gavin Newsom’s ballot measure to reshape the state’s congressional districts, with less than a month to go in the campaign.

What happened: California Environment Voters and Sierra Club California both endorsed Proposition 50 in statements Tuesday. The Community Water Center, meanwhile, created a 501c(4) issues committee to support Prop 50 last week. None of the groups had yet filed campaign finance reports detailing any related spending with the secretary of state as of Tuesday.

“Prop 50 is about fighting back and protecting the voices of Californians from MAGA, who control every level of the federal government yet have failed to keep it open. Again,” said Mike Young, the executive director of California Environmental Voters, in a statement Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a political action committee funded mostly through donations by Occidental Petroleum, Conservatives for America, gave $49,900 to the “no” side, according to a Monday filing.
