EPA Friday announced plans to boost volumes of biofuels blended into the nation’s transportation fuels in 2026 and 2027, drawing praise from the industry.
In the first annual announcement of biofuel volumes in the second Trump administration, EPA said it would hold refiners to 15 billion gallons of conventional biofuel and raise minimum amounts of biomass-based diesel and cellulosic ethanol.
The volumes are announced each year under the federal renewable fuel standard, which requires the blending of crop-based alternatives into the fuel supply. The proposed rule is open to public comment before being finalized, with a public hearing scheduled for July 8.
In announcing two years’ worth of minimum volumes, the Trump administration said it was making a significant step forward with the RFS.
