The Trump administration is partnering with tech giants, energy companies and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to advance reuse of wastewater for industries such as artificial intelligence.
EPA released an action plan Thursday to encourage treatment and reuse of municipal and industrial wastewater for water-intensive sectors like fossil fuel power plants, microchip manufacturing and AI data centers. Administration officials said it would help reduce pressure on freshwater resources.
Companies partnering with EPA on the initiative include Amazon, Google, Tyson Foods and PepsiCo. Trade groups such as the WateReuse Association and the American Water Works Association have also signed onto the plan.
“Water reuse delivers safe, affordable water to farms, families and industries, strengthens community resilience and protects the natural resources future generations depend on,” EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin said at a press conference.
