The Climate Justice Alliance’s outspoken advocacy has drawn fire from Republicans critical of the 2022 climate law.

An advocacy group may lose $50 million in EPA grant funding because of its pro-Palestinian advocacy.

EPA is still weighing whether to move forward with a grant it announced last year for the Climate Justice Alliance — a national coalition of groups representing overburdened and front-line communities that has been outspoken in its support for a cease-fire in Gaza. All other selectees for the same grant program — dubbed the Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Grantmaking program — have received at least a portion of their award. CJA is the only one that has not.

EPA declined to comment on whether the agency is considering withholding the grant because of CJA’s outspoken position on Gaza. But the delay comes after Republicans seized on the group’s advocacy to argue that funds from the Inflation Reduction Act are propping up radical organizations.
