President Donald Trump appointed Amy Van Blarcom-Lackey, a lifelong Pennsylvania dairy farmer and former banking executive, to lead EPA’s mid-Atlantic region.
Van Blarcom-Lackey — the first woman appointed as Region 3 administrator, according to EPA — will oversee Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and the agency’s Chesapeake Bay Program.
“Amy’s experience and dedication to both agriculture and the environment make her a tremendous asset to the agency and the Mid-Atlantic Region,” EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin said in the news release.
Van Blarcom-Lackey was raised in rural Pennsylvania on her family’s dairy farm, Sugar Branch Farms, which is home to approximately 900 cows, according to the Center for Dairy Excellence. In 2004 and 2005, she was a registered federal lobbyist for the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, according to OpenSecrets.
