EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin is past due on issuing a blueprint for siting data centers on contaminated lands, a move intended to meet President Donald Trump’s quest to dominate artificial intelligence.

In an executive order last summer on “accelerating federal permitting of data center infrastructure,” Trump directed Zeldin to develop guidance on speeding up review timelines to get Superfund and brownfield sites back “to productive use as expeditiously as possible.”

That plan, due within 180 days of the order, or by Jan. 19, has not yet been released.

EPA spokesperson Brigit Hirsch said the agency “is working expeditiously to implement the executive order” and did not acknowledge specific questions about the guidance.
