EPA releases $7.5B for drinking water, brownfield cleanups

The agency says it will prioritize projects that support disadvantaged communities, speed up lead pipe removals and remove forever chemicals from water.

The Biden administration opened up $7.5 billion Friday to help communities replace lead pipes, remove harmful chemicals from drinking water and clean up polluted properties.

EPA will deliver the cash in long-term loans through the 2014 Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act.

The agency will also provide another $232 million from the 2021 infrastructure law to fund about 200 brownfield remediation projects aimed turning polluted sites into “community assets.”
