EPA said Friday it’s boosting the amount of biofuel to be blended into the nation’s transportation fuel, handing a win to ethanol producers and farmers.
The environmental agency said refiners will be required to blend more than 25 billion gallons of biofuel in both 2026 and 2027, the most ever through the federal renewable fuel standard.
The final rule outlining the requirements “creates a larger, more stable, and more reliable domestic market for U.S. crops, strengthening farm income and rural economies,” EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin said in a news release.
Friday’s announcement was timed to coincide with an agriculture event at the White House, where President Donald Trump sought to reassure farm groups nervous about climbing costs, low commodity prices and tariff wars with global trade partners.
