EPA will officially terminate its Office of Research and Development and reassign remaining staffers next month.
The agency “is moving forward to close the Office of Research and Development and reassign remaining employees to EPA offices where their expertise will directly support statutory and mission-essential functions,” according to an unsigned internal email reviewed by POLITICO’s E&E News.
Remaining employees will receive individual notices “in March 2026” that include “the specifics of their upcoming reassignment,” the email said.
“This action will not result in a reduction-in-force action or any location closures,” EPA spokesperson Brigit Hirsch said. “To complete this science-centered transformation, EPA is moving forward to reassign remaining employees to EPA offices where their expertise will directly support statutory and mission-essential functions.”
