BONN, Germany — Two career officials have taken the place of the European Union’s longtime climate envoy, splitting the role in two.
Jacob Werksman, who was the EU’s lead negotiator at global conferences such as the annual COP talks for more than a decade, left the post late last year.
His job will now be split between two senior officials from the EU executive’s climate department, DG CLIMA, a European Commission official told POLITICO.
DG CLIMA has appointed Diana Acconcia, the department’s director for international affairs and climate finance, as the EU’s head of delegation to the United Nations climate body as of this month, the official said.
