The Trump administration’s opposition to electric vehicles hasn’t stopped the private sector from building new EV chargers. New research finds that the pace of construction continued at a steady clip over the summer.
The United States added 699 direct-current fast-charging stations and more than 4,000 individual charging ports in the third quarter of 2025, according to Paren, an EV charging data platform. That brings the national totals to 12,375 stations with 64,486 ports.
The rate of construction was slower in the third quarter than the second quarter. But the Paren report found that charging stations have become more reliable and are being used more frequently.
Notably, utilization increased the most in summertime destinations such as Maine, Montana and Oregon — an indication that people were driving electric cars on summer vacations, said Bill Ferro, Paren’s chief technology officer, in a webcast released with the company’s third-quarter report.
