Peter Ambler, a veteran of the Energy Department and Capitol Hill who led a prominent gun violence prevention group, has joined a firm that uses artificial intelligence to track down wildfires.
Ambler — the former executive director and co-founder of Giffords, a gun violence prevention organization — has joined Pano AI as vice president of global government affairs. The San Francisco-based startup uses ultra-high-definition cameras and AI to detect wildfires and allow responders to snuff them out more quickly.
He started his new gig at Pano AI in August after leading Giffords for more than a decade.
“I was very attracted to a technology that offers an upfront and obvious solution for our safety as a country and for our health,” Ambler said. “Being part of the AI revolution is really powerful, but being part of it in a way that is at the forefront of climate adaptation tech and confronting the wildfire crisis is really powerful.”
