A former power company lawyer and lobbyist who most recently led Ohio’s environmental agency is the new administrator for EPA’s Chicago-based regional office.

Anne Vogel was sworn into the Region 5 position Monday morning, according to an EPA spokesperson.

In her new role, she will oversee the agency’s work in the six-state region that covers Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin, as well as 37 tribal nations. Vogel will also manage the Great Lakes National Program, which typically ranks among the best-funded of EPA’s “geographic” water restoration initiatives.

With Vogel, the regional office now has “the right leader at the right time,” EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin said in a news release. “I am confident that her deep knowledge and vast experience will be vital to implementing President Trump’s agenda across Region 5.”
