The Trump administration has brought in a new top official at the Justice Department’s environment division.

Adam Gustafson, who served as EPA deputy general counsel during President Donald Trump’s first term, is currently principal deputy assistant attorney general at DOJ’s Environment and Natural Resources Division (ENRD).

ENRD is responsible for defending and enforcing the nation’s environmental laws, and the Trump administration is facing scrutiny for pushing out the office’s career staff.

Gustafson is in a post that oversees ENRD’s executive office and Natural Resources Section and reports directly to the division’s assistant attorney general — a Senate-confirmed position that Trump has not yet filled.
